**Answer:** Postpartum psychosis is a rare but serious illness that usually starts suddenly in the first two weeks after birth. Signs include seeing or hearing things that are not there, strange beliefs, extreme highs or rapidly changing moods, and confusion. It is a medical emergency: get help the same day at the nearest hospital. With prompt treatment most mothers recover fully. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 999 or 112, or Kenya Red Cross on 1199. Befrienders Kenya offers free, confidential support on +254 722 178177.
