**Answer:** The 2022 amendments introduced supporters, appointed by a person with mental illness to make decisions according to their will and preferences. Where the person cannot give informed consent, the supporter consents, and must follow those preferences. If no supporter is appointed, a representative acts; for minors, the guardian. Supporters also receive notices, for example of restraint, and may apply for involuntary admission. Check whether a client has a supporter and record the appointment in their file.
