**Answer:** Many young children are energetic or distractible, so this does not mean your child has ADHD. Ask the teacher what they have observed and where, then see a doctor, who can refer you to a child psychiatrist, paediatrician or psychologist for a full assessment. Assessment looks at behaviour at home and school, development and other causes such as sleep or stress. Support can include parenting strategies, school adjustments and sometimes medicine.
