**Answer:** In January 2025 the High Court declared section 226 of the Penal Code, which made attempted suicide an offence, unconstitutional. Kenya's Mental Health Act also treats suicidal thoughts and behaviour as a health condition needing care, not punishment. Asking a health worker for help is safe and the right step.
