**Answer:** There is no universal number of physiotherapy sessions. It depends on the condition and its severity, the stage of recovery, your goals, how you respond to treatment, how well you manage the home programme, and practical factors such as access, travel and funding. Some problems need only one or two sessions of advice; neurological rehabilitation often takes longer. Progress should be reviewed at agreed points rather than sessions continuing automatically, and visits often become less frequent as you become more independent.

### What affects the number of sessions

- Diagnosis, severity and whether the problem is acute, post-operative, neurological or long term
- Your baseline mobility, independence and goals
- How quickly you learn and safely carry out the programme
- Your response to treatment between reviews
- Need for equipment, caregiver training or other professionals
- Insurance authorisation, travel, cost and service availability

A good plan states what is being reviewed, when, and what would justify continuing, changing, referring or ending treatment. More sessions do not always mean better care: treatment should stop or change when goals are met, progress plateaus or another service is more appropriate.
