**Answer:** Physiotherapy progress is measured by comparing where you started with follow-up results across your goals, everyday function, symptoms, physical measurements and agreed outcome tools. Progress is not only about less pain: walking further, sleeping better, returning to work or feeling more confident all count, and function often improves before pain changes. Results are reviewed at planned points to decide whether care continues, changes, pauses, is referred on or ends.

### What counts as progress

Progress may include better walking, work, sleep, confidence, strength, range of movement, balance, endurance or self-management. One area may improve before another.

- Measures do not need repeating every visit; they are repeated at meaningful decision points
- At each review the physiotherapist should repeat relevant measures, review goals and explain the findings
- The reason for continuing or changing the plan should be documented
- If progress stops, the diagnosis, exercise dose, barriers and need for referral should be reassessed

Worsening symptoms or new warning signs should lead to reassessment, not simply more of the same programme.
