**Answer:** Under the Children Act 2022, any person with reasonable cause to believe a child needs care and protection may report to an authorised officer, such as a children's officer or police officer (section 145). Medical practitioners and health facility administrators who find that specified offences have been committed against a child must record the findings and report within 48 hours (section 146). The Act's definition of child abuse includes failing to report abuse. Agree a safeguarding procedure in advance, explain limits of confidentiality at intake, and consult your supervisor.
