**Answer:** Mental health describes everyone's emotional, psychological and social well-being. Mental illness, or a mental health condition, refers to a diagnosable pattern of thoughts, emotions, behaviour or perception that causes significant distress, affects daily functioning or creates safety concerns. You can have poor mental health without a mental illness, for example during grief or stress, and someone living with a condition can still have strong well-being and recovery.
