**Answer:** The law is not fully settled. The Mental Health Act requires a guardian's written consent before treating a minor with mental illness (section 3B). The Data Protection Act exempts providers that exclusively offer counselling or child protection services from parental consent for processing a child's data (section 33(4)). The Children Act requires that a child's views be considered by age and maturity, and protects health confidentiality unless that is not in the child's best interests. Seek supervision or legal advice on unaccompanied minors.
